Pacheco PEAK Summer 2011 Equipment Drive

This is just a quick note of thanks to those of you who donated new/used equipment or money last Thursday for our Pacheco PEAK* Scholars. If you still have something to contribute, feel free to drop it off at my house any day, any (reasonable) time: 752 Meinecke Avenue, SLO. We have a small courtyard in front, so if no one is home, you can simply leave your items there.

We’re trying to outfit 15 soccer players for this fall’s AYSO season, so cleats, shin guards, or soccer balls would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you have a Cub Scouts uniform for an 8-year-old boy or a Girl Scouts uniform that would fit a 10-year-old girl, we have a couple students who would love to wear them.

Best wishes for a great summer,

Susan

*What Is PEAK?

*PEAK (Promoting Extracurricular Activities for Kids) aims to enable all Pacheco Elementary students to participate in extracurricular activities. PEAK is a volunteer organization, and all of its proceeds are used to pay for activity tuition, equipment/supplies, and operating expenses. PEAK operates under the Pacheco PTA, so all donations are tax deductible. PEAK scholarships are designed to help Pacheco families in need—financial or otherwise. In an effort to serve the greatest number of students, PEAK scholarships may not exceed $150 per student, per year. For complete information about PEAK, visit www.peakslo.org.

If you prefer not to receive future emails, please let me know so I can remove your name and address.

Pacheco PEAK Progress Report & Equipment Drive

Great news: thanks to generous donations from our community, PEAK* awarded 30 scholarships this spring to Pacheco students, K – 6th grade, which will enable them to participate in extracurricular activities of their choice. Chosen activities include art classes, basketball, Boy Scouts, dance lessons, Girl Scouts, guitar lessons, gymnastics, piano lessons, soccer, and swimming. All but four students are first-time participants in their chosen activity. Now we need your help to gather supplies and equipment for these students.

Supplies & Equipment Needed

If you have any new or gently used items listed below, please drop them off on the last day of school, June 16, 2:00 – 3:30. Look for a PEAK table and sign on the blacktop area near the office. If you would like a donation receipt for tax purposes, we will be happy to provide one.

  • Soccer cleats, shin guards, shorts, or soccer balls
  • Dance or gymnastics leotards or tights
  • Musical instruments–especially guitar or small keyboard
  • Swim goggles, trunks, or bathing suits
  • Basketball shoes, shorts, or basketballs

We would also gladly accept store gift cards (Sports Authority, Big 5, Dance Shop, etc.), personal checks (addressed to “Pacheco PTA: PEAK”), or any other relevant items you would like to donate at that time. If you cannot drop off your items on the 16th, please let me know, and we will arrange a more convenient time and place.

Support Needed

In addition to supplies, the program will greatly benefit from the kinds of ongoing support listed below:

  • Monetary donations or gift cards to help pay for registration or needed equipment
  • Volunteers to assist in registering students for activities or transporting them to practices
  • Translators to help PEAK communicate effectively in English and Spanish

PEAK awards biannual scholarships, and it will thrive with help from people like you. Pacheco students may apply for either spring or fall scholarships, which are funded entirely by donations from our community. If you have ideas or an interest in helping our fundraising efforts, please contact me.

And if you are interested in helping in other ways, we need all the assistance we can find, so feel free to call or email me. If you know others who might also be interested, remember to forward this email to them. Thanks again for your generosity.
