PEAK 2014: Progress Report & Request for Donations

In the spirit of the holiday season, PEAK* would like to give thanks for the incredibly generous donations from our community, which have enabled us to award more than 250 scholarships to Pacheco students, K – 6th grade. These scholarships give our students a chance to participate in extracurricular activities of their choice: art classes, martial arts, music lessons, sports, and more. Now we could use your help to gather donations and equipment to help ensure the ongoing success of this program.

Donations Needed

Please consider adding PEAK to your list of charitable, tax-deductible donations for 2015. Even a small contribution can go a long way, and 100% of your donation will fund extracurricular activities for children in need. If you choose to donate, remember to address your check to Pacheco PTA/PEAK and either mail it to the address below or drop it off in the Pacheco office.

Supplies & Equipment Needed

If you have any new or gently used items for extracurricular activities (cleats, instruments, balls, etc.), please email me to arrange a time/place to drop them off. All donations are tax deductible, so you will receive a donation receipt for your records.

The PEAK program will continue to thrive due to the kindness of people like you. If you are interested in helping in other ways, feel free to call or email me, and if you know others who might be interested, forward this email to them. On behalf of all of us who work to keep this program going, thank you for your generosity.

Safe travels and best wishes for the holiday,

Clothing “Swap-O-Rama-Rama” to Benefit PEAK

If you’re like me, you’ve been meaning to purge your closet of the things you never wear, but the task always falls to the bottom of your to-do list. Here’s a little motivation to do that chore now:

This Saturday, June 2, 11:00 – 4:00, bring at least one bag of unwanted clothing to the 3rd Annual Swap-O-Rama-Rama (SORR) at CL Smith Elementary School, pay a $10 entrance fee, and walk away with as many new-to-you articles as you want.

Sound good? It gets even better: the SORR also features workshops led by local artists, who will help you alter and embellish your new clothing so it’s just as you like it. Live music by Zongo will help inspire your creativity.

All proceeds from this year’s SORR will benefit the PEAK program, Promoting Extracurricular Activities for Kids (www.peakslo.org). Check something off your to-do list, take home great new clothing for next to nothing, and benefit a great cause? That’s a win-win-win!

See you Saturday!

Pacheco PEAK Fall Progress Report & Equipment Drive

PEAK* has great news to share with you: thanks to generous donations from our community, we awarded 20 scholarships this fall to Pacheco students, K – 6th grade. These scholarships enable our students to participate in extracurricular activities of their choice, including art classes, basketball, guitar lessons, gymnastics, karate, piano lessons, indoor soccer, swimming, and volleyball. All but four students are first-time participants in their chosen activity. Now we need your help to gather equipment for these students and donations to help pay for their enrollment.

Supplies & Equipment Needed

If you have any new or gently used items listed below, please email me to arrange a time/place to drop them off. All donations are tax deductible, so if you would like a donation receipt for tax purposes, we will be happy to provide one.

  • Swim goggles, swim trunks (sizes 9/M and 6-7S), and one-piece bathing suits (size M/9-10 and XL/16)
  • Karate gi, shirt size medium, pants 12 – 14
  • Dance or gymnastics leotards or tights: shirt size 7/8, pants size 6/7
  • Piano keyboard
  • Volleyball and volleyball shoes (size 4)
  • Basketball shoes: sizes 2.5 (x2) and 7

Donations Needed

Please consider adding PEAK to your list of charitable, tax-deductible donations for 2011. Even a small contribution can go a long way; here are just a few examples:

  • $65 = one season of YMCA basketball
  • $40 = one month of karate classes
  • $31 = four art classes

If you choose to donate, please remember to address your check to Pacheco PTA/PEAK and either mail it to the address below or drop it off in the Pacheco office. We also welcome store gift cards (Sports Authority, Big 5, Dance Shop, etc.), which are used to purchase new equipment as needed.

PEAK awards biannual scholarships, and it will continue to thrive with the kindness of people like you. If you are interested in helping in other ways, feel free to call or email me, and if you know others who might be interested, forward this email to them. Thanks again for your generosity, and best wishes for the holiday season.

Pacheco PEAK Summer 2011 Equipment Drive

This is just a quick note of thanks to those of you who donated new/used equipment or money last Thursday for our Pacheco PEAK* Scholars. If you still have something to contribute, feel free to drop it off at my house any day, any (reasonable) time: 752 Meinecke Avenue, SLO. We have a small courtyard in front, so if no one is home, you can simply leave your items there.

We’re trying to outfit 15 soccer players for this fall’s AYSO season, so cleats, shin guards, or soccer balls would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you have a Cub Scouts uniform for an 8-year-old boy or a Girl Scouts uniform that would fit a 10-year-old girl, we have a couple students who would love to wear them.

Best wishes for a great summer,

Susan

If you have any new or gently used items listed below, please drop them off on the last day of school, June 16, 2:00 – 3:30. Look for a PEAK table and sign on the blacktop area near the office. If you would like a donation receipt for tax purposes, we will be happy to provide one.

  • Dance or gymnastics leotards or tights
  • Musical instruments–especially guitar or small keyboard
  • Swim goggles, trunks, or bathing suits
  • Basketball shoes, shorts, or basketballs

If you cannot drop off your items on the 16th, please let me know, and we will arrange a more convenient time and place.

In addition to supplies, the program will greatly benefit from the kinds of ongoing support listed below:

  • Monetary donations or gift cards to help pay for registration or needed equipment
  • Volunteers to assist in registering students for activities or transporting them to practices
  • Translators to help PEAK communicate effectively in English and Spanish

PEAK awards biannual scholarships, and it will thrive with help from people like you. Pacheco students may apply for either spring or fall scholarships, which are funded entirely by donations from our community. If you have ideas or an interest in helping our fundraising efforts, please contact me.

And if you are interested in helping in other ways, we need all the assistance we can find, so feel free to call or email me. If you know others who might also be interested, remember to forward this email to them. Thanks again for your generosity.

Pacheco PEAK Organization: Introduction and Welcome

Try to remember being the age our Pacheco children are now. Even if you loved school, you probably *lived* for an activity you pursued after the final bell rang. My own passions included gymnastics and 4-H; my sisters and friends loved scouting, dance, singing, piano, basketball, and more. These activities bolstered our confidence, refined our natural talents, provided valuable exposure to influential adults, and helped shape our careers, relationships, and even lives. At the very least, they gave us meaningful ways to spend our free time.

PEAK (Promoting Extracurricular Activities for Kids), a new Pacheco-based organization, aims to enable all Pacheco students to pursue their passion–whether for music, sports, dance, art, scouting, martial arts, drama, etc. A volunteer organization, PEAK uses all proceeds for tuition and operating expenses, and because it currently operates under the Pacheco PTA, all donations are tax deductible.

PEAK will succeed with the help–big or small–of people like you. We welcome any of the following:

  • Monetary donations to help pay tuition for extracurricular activities
  • Used or new equipment donations for scholarship recipients (e.g., cleats, musical instruments, art supplies, etc.)
  • Volunteers to pair with scholarship recipients to help them register for activities
  • Translators to help PEAK communicate effectively in English and Spanish
  • Individuals willing to serve on the PEAK governing board
  • People willing to help coordinate or perform small tasks

If you are interested in helping a little or a lot, please let us know, and if you know others who might also be interested, please forward this email to them. Our first meeting will be very soon, so we will email you as soon as a date has been set.

With best regards,

Susan Westwood & Louise Kraemer
